RUMOR: Disney Buying Hasbro?

I  found this entry from MTV Geek:

(...) The acquisition would give Disney the rights to Transformers, G.I. Joe, Dungeons and Dragons, Beyblade, Battleship, Nerf, and Magic: The Gathering among several dozen other game titles and IP. When you add Marvel and Star Wars to that list it’s a pretty comprehensive lock on boy’s entertainment; a far cry from a few years back when Disney was heavily criticized for losing its grip on boys. (...)

The whole article is posted HERE.  I wonder if this (if true) would perhaps lead Disney to release a DECENT Dungeons & Dragons movie.  Keep an ear to the ground.

EDIT  11/07/2012

Found this entry on FILM:  "
Disney already owns Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm, so when a rumor circulated Monday that the studio was looking to acquire Hasbro, it had a ring of believability to it. So much so, in fact, that the whispers gave the toy company’s stock a bit of a spike on Tuesday. But don’t count on seeing Optimus Prime don mouse ears anytime soon. According to sources at Hasbro, there’s no truth to the talk."

Also found this on MSN Money--very interesting:  "Granted, the source is an anonymous writer at MTV Geek quoting anonymous sources about a deal that's "still just discussions at this point." But the speculation stands on some pretty solid business bedrock considering Disney loves buying anything a kid has ever liked.  (. . .)"

  1. I haven't cared for WotC's handling of D&D so I would be very interested to see what Disney could make of it. I doubt this is would be Dream Park in the making, but perhaps something very cool might come of it.

    1. In the short term, I very much doubt this will impact WotC's business as regards publishing role-playing games & settings. In the major media, it's another story. Disney would want to earn a return on its investment asap, and seek to turn into movies, TV series, or cartoons anything it thinks it can sell while supporting its brand/sales strategy. I would think it includes D&D as a general brand name.
