The badge graphic is now fixed in the text. It's meant to read as "The Cloud." If we got it wrong, please let us know. Your script seems to work perfectly on the blog; that's what I wanted to see. I couldn't get MS Word to emulate this writing the way it appears here. Would you mind terribly e-mailing me the Word file with the correct script? I can easily fix Al Safeer's badge once I have the this file. Thanks!!

(You can attach the file to a private mail on Facebook.)Bruce Heardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02929476133092132896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8752010860639064233.post-17724000248805185602013-01-26T04:39:57.988-06:002013-01-26T04:39:57.988-06:00Not sure if this will work through the blog, but I...Not sure if this will work through the blog, but I take it you are trying to get this:
السحاب
or perhaps
السَحَابَ

there is also
الغيم
which aparently also means "[The] Clouds" (or perhaps "[The] Haze"), but it too becomes "[The] Cloud" if you add a tah-marbutah (according to google)
(I hope those display correctly)Geckohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01723659901509670594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8752010860639064233.post-78990090401872914242013-01-26T04:15:38.213-06:002013-01-26T04:15:38.213-06:00I can get the correct letter shapes in a word docu...I can get the correct letter shapes in a word document if you want (PM me via the piazza if so).

As for whether it's the correct translation I'm not sure but it looks right- though google translate say's it is plural "The Clouds" and indicates you need a taw-marbutah on the end to makes it singular, but I think that would also make it into a feminine name.Geckohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01723659901509670594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8752010860639064233.post-67348918137521237002013-01-24T08:53:55.005-06:002013-01-24T08:53:55.005-06:00Regarding the Badge of Al Safeer & Arabic scri...Regarding the Badge of Al Safeer & Arabic script.

I had what looked like the correct translation for "The Cloud," (Arabic-speakers, please correct me if I'm wrong!) but I couldn't lift the wording directly to use it as a graphic element in the badge. The graphic resolution wasn't adequate and the result looked fuzzy and unacceptable. So I cut & pasted the translation into MS Word, with idea that I would then blow up its font size to 100 or 200 points. Well, two things happened:

1. MS Word flipped the order of letters to be read from left to right, as with the Latin alphabet. As far as I known, Arabic reads right to left... So I had to move the letters individually to put them back in their right order.

2. If I understand how Arabic works, the script changes depending on whether characters appear at the beginning, at the end, or somewhere in the middle of a word, linking together letters within a word just like Western writing. MS Word decided otherwise. It switched all the letters to their initial cap format and added breaks between them, sort of like: "T H E C L O U D I S M Y N A M E." I couldn't find a way to retain the proper script despite my best efforts.

So, I apologize to Arabic readers for that. If you have a better solution or know how to set up MS Word to retain a proper-looking Arabic script rather than speaking Martian to me, please let me know!Bruce Heardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02929476133092132896noreply@blogger.com
